CloudVision Dashboard Redesign
Problem
After launch, user feedback revealed several usability issues across the dashboard experience. As dashboards became more complex, users had difficulty finding information, adding and managing widgets, and understanding available actions.
The main challenges included:
Low discoverability of important dashboard information
Visual clutter within the widget toolbox
Inconsistent grid and interaction patterns
Low discoverability and consistency across primary and secondary actions
The challenge was to improve usability without taking away the flexibility and customization users needed to build complex monitoring dashboards.
Redesigning the Dashboard Experience
I analyzed user feedback and worked with the product, marketing, design, and engineering teams to identify where the existing experience was creating the most friction.
I focused the redesign around four areas:
Dashboard organization — making information easier to scan and find
Widget discovery — simplifying how users find and add visualizations
Grid interactions — improving how widgets are arranged and resized
Actions & controls — creating clearer and more consistent interaction patterns
I also evaluated dashboard patterns across other cloud and monitoring products to understand how similar complex workflows were being handled.
Validating the Redesign
I created a functional prototype and conducted usability testing to validate the redesigned interactions before handoff.
Based on testing, I refined the experience and delivered final designs, interaction specifications, and implementation guidance to engineering.
Impact
The redesign created a more discoverable, consistent, and scalable dashboard experience while preserving the flexibility users needed to customize complex monitoring views.
The work also helped establish more consistent interaction and visual patterns across the broader CloudVision product experience.
